Welcome to

Kathmandu

Nepal

Kathmandu is the gateway to the Himalayas and one of Asia's most spiritually charged cities — a valley ringed by 8,000-metre peaks where Hindu and Buddhist traditions are inseparably intertwined in an ancient urban landscape of temples, stupas, and sacred courtyards. Swayambhunath's all-seeing Buddha eyes watch over the city from a hilltop, Pashupatinath's burning ghats on the Bagmati River are among the most moving religious sites in Asia, and the medieval durbar squares of Kathmandu, Patan, and Bhaktapur are extraordinary concentrations of Newari art and architecture. The city is also the logistical hub for Everest Base Camp treks and the Annapurna Circuit — two of the world's greatest mountain journeys.
